Tu Luong Foundation (TLF, also known as Tu Luong Medical Mission Foundation) was established in 1992 in Vermont by Tan Lam in honor of his mother and father, Tu and Luong, respectively. Tu Luong means from the heart in Vietnamese and “help, relief, assistance, aid, and support” in Filipino (tulong/tulugan).
Our first purpose was to provide free medical services to Vietnamese refugees in Southeast Asia. TLF organized a network of students, doctors, and nurses into medical teams to travel to refugee camps and provided free medical services to Vietnamese refugees. TLF provided a way for pharmaceutical companies to furnish donations of money and supplies.
When the last Vietnamese refugee camp closed, TLF reincorporated in Washington 1998 to support education and other nonprofits. Tu Luong Foundation (TLF) hopes to help 1,000 nonprofits a year to solicit funding from different foundations and corporations, and in turn, each nonprofit reaches out to 500 clients per year; then TLF would have assisted 500,000 clients per year indirectly.
